Well, it appears I'm on the Internet... I've been FTPing, IRCing, and MPNing (Making a Public Nusance) aaaaaalll over the world. I've learned enough UNIX to puke in four directories at once. It's a mixed blessing... One, it's really cool yakking with Finland, but it's so damn antiquated. As soon as I log on I feel like I've stepped back 20 years... and I'm only 20 years old. I'm amazed that it works at all, typing in archaic commands to a site clear across the world that's been there since the days of the dinosaur. I've been downloading huge things too. Good thing there's no time limit. HaHAA! I wish FirstClass systems were connected this well. And the chat too, the internet chat is better. But man, FirstClass so much easyer with files. You get things like DESCRIPTIONS, and niceties such as that.. To open and close folders in FTP you have to type a command for each thing, and to look in the folder you need still another command. Sometimes Gophering is easier, but the lag can get so slooowwww. Until they get a remote windowing shell like motif-on-a-modem, Internet is going to be annoying to use.
Maybe I should have put this in the Techie Crap.. maybe not. Maybe I don't care. Maybe I should guard my freshly killed sense of private thought. Maybe if I stand on the roof, flap my arms and think reeeeally hard I'll surge up into the sky, free as a meadowlark. Maybe there's a wonderful secret hidden in the words 'waste of time'....
