Thing one: I use a lot of netscapeish and/or internet-explorerish tags (versions 2 and 3 quite often with the old stuff, 4 and 5 with the new stuff.. so I'd just get 5 anyway if I were you) tags, so unless you use either of those, something somewhere (usually not everywhere, but here and there) will usually look screwed up (not as it was intended to look) if you don't use netscapade or microflopped exploiter too. Here's a good reveiw of one of the versions of netscrape, that shares my opinion of the frames, email, and usenet functions in v2 (and is still informationally valid in many areas). You can get nets-crap at ftp.netscape.com or www.netscape.com exploiter you can get at microsloth's site. On some pages I've actually used a few tags that donut work with netscrap.
And if you do already have them, then there's a couple other things that I have set in my browsers that make things more visually appealing. To have as much page area as possible, I set to not show directory buttons (since they're in the Directory menu anyway), and I set the Preferences to show the Toolbar as Text. To make links more readable I have them set NOT to be underlined. With the font color tags it can make the links harder to find, but sometimes it's really cooler that way anyways.Thing two: Many of my pages use imagery which REALLY look better if you have at least 16 bit color. 24/32 bit video (16 million colors to choose from) is highly recommended... Those of you that have an Infinite Reality Onyx2 can say, "Ppha! I have 64 bit color.." or whatever. But a lot of people out there are on ibms with 256 colors (8 bit) and like a 486 processor. Fortunately due to video games being so popular, anyone that buys a new machine will have more colors and speed, but I've had the unfortunate experience of seeing some of my pages in the previously mentioned state, and I can definately say that it's not a pleasant thing. It's hard to believe that anyone can even STAND looking at the web on such a set-up.. If that's all I had I'd say fuck it, and just use LYNX or something. At least then it would be quicker. But anyways, use as high a bit depth as you can get.
Thing three: My more experimental pages are using and will be using plug-ins of various kinds. These only work on EMBED tags, and so if you're using an old version of netscape or something you might get a crash. But if your stuff is up to date and everything, then you'll get a thing saying basically "I don't understand this embed type, duh.." and you tell it to cancel. So I'll tell you here the plug-ins I make and will make use of:
Shockwave/Flash ..........It's spiffy cool, I also use here and there.
Acrobat ..............Because that's what Xeno is in.
Real Player ..........I use here and there, so having the player would be good.
Quicktime Plugin ......if you didn't already get it with your browser or you need the newest version.
Thing four: You're brain needs to be adjustable to the things on my pages. They're not what you'd normally find on the net, and they might take a little extra time to grasp and/or appreciate. I don't have any hotlinks to cool site number 10 from the search engine Yuts-Web or pictures of my ass. I just have some things I think some people should take in, and maybe stir their thoughts to the point of a new idea or two. So just like...relax. And look through whatever pages you have the curiosity to look through.
